Install Xpress
Description
Notes on how to install the new Xpress software on a client PC
Procedure
Xpress has a Software Center install attempt to use this in the first instance which will automatically perform the installation process, afterwards you only need to complete the final steps on page 6
Xpress users should all have the mapped drives below deployed by group policy, please confirm for any user having issues or before a manual install:
X:\ mapped to \\lancaster.gov.uk\other\data\xpress
W:\ mapped to \\xpress01\xpress
Navigate to the “W:\~SETUP\XpressScanSetup\C++ Runtimes x64” folder and run the vcredist_x64.exe (it may already be installed):
Navigate to the “W:\~SETUP\XpressScanSetup\C++Runtimes” folder and run the vcredist_x86.exe (it may already be installed):
Navigate to the “W:\~SETUP\XpressScanSetup\CrystalReports10_5x86” folder and run the CRRedist2008_x86.msi:
Navigate to the “W:\~SETUP\XpressScanSetup\eXpress Export Printer” folder and run the eXpressInstallDocumentExporter.bat:
Navigate to the “W:\~SETUP\XpressScanSetup\MSVBVM50” folder and run msvbvm50.exe:
Navigate to the “W:\~SETUP\XpressClientSetup” folder and run XpressInstall.msi:
When prompted ensure both modules are ticked:
Install the software for everyone:
Copy and replace all files from “W:\~updates\Minor” to “C:\Program Files (x86)\eXpress”
If missing copy the initialrun.exe to C:\Program Files (x86)\eXpress from W:\~updates\Minor
Open Printers and Faxes and select printer properties on the “eXpress Export Printer”:
Give the “File Access - Xpress Read Write permissions” group permission to Manage This Printer and Manage Documents:
This will install Xpress at its default installation version and it now needs updating to current version and configuring so the user can update Xpress themselves.
Log into the device as admin:
Browse to the local installation folder and amend the permissions on C:\Program Files (x86)\eXpress to Add the group "File Access – Xpress Read Write Permissions" - (Right click C:\Express - Properties - Edit - ~account creds - add group "File Access – Xpress Read Write Permissions" Highlight the file access group and check modify box - apply - ok - ok
Grant Modify permissions to the folder and tick the box to Replace child object permissions with inheritable permissions
(C:\eXpress - Properties - Security - advanced - Change Permissions - Enter ~creds - Highlight File Access - Xpress Read Write Permissions - check box to replace child object permissions - apply - ok)
Copy eXpressCheck from W: (\\xpress01\xpress\~updates\minor) and copy to C:\Program Files (x86)\eXpress and run to check for updated files and run
Log user back in to:
From the local express installation folder run Initialrun.exe this will open the Initialrun window and set the following paths (if intialrun.exe is missing copy from W:\~updates\minor (\\xpress01\xpress\~updates\minor) to the local install folder (programfiles x86))
W drive has to mapped ((\\xpress01\xpress\)
Update folder: W:\~updates\minor
Express folder: C:\program files(x86)\eXpress
Click Get Info and it will show the installed version and the available version.
Click Start Initial Run and wait for the process to complete.
Put a shortcut to xpresscheck.exe from the local installation to the Public Desktop (c\users\public\public desktop) folder which they will use to update Xpress when a new release is installed. Run Xpresscheck.exe to update Xpress automatically if not already done.
Check if they want xpress check to run on startup and enable or disable as required via msconfig startup.
If user needs to be able to install Xpress release versions to the server (core Elections staff), they require a shortcut to
W:\~updates\installer\expressrealeaseinstaller.exe (\\xpress01\xpress\~updates\installer\expressrealeaseinstaller.exe)
Shortcut is already in folder, named “Xpress Update Release Installer.lnk”. Please copy to end user’s desktop and remove any other shortcuts to the release installer they may already have
