FortiClient VPN Manual Connection
FortiClient VPN User Guidance
The new FortiClient VPN should always automatically attempt to connect, however the following steps will guide you through connecting manually should the need arise.
Firstly, open the FortiClient using the desktop shortcut and navigate to the Remote Access tab on the left:
Use the drop-down menus to select the correct VPN Name and Client Certificate, you can select either the user tunnel or device tunnel and the corresponding certificate.
Once both the tunnel and certificate have been selected, click the Connect button, once the connection succeeds the FortiClient window will close. If you are unsure whether it has connected you can check via the icon in the bottom right of your screen as below:
You can also reopen the FortiClient to monitor the status of your connection:
One thing to be conscious of is that your wifi network will display as having ‘No Internet access’ as below, so long as the Forti VPN is connected you can disregard this:
If for whatever reason the VPN fails to connect, please follow the same troubleshooting steps as with the previous VPN, restart your laptop and try again, restart your router where possible and try again. Should neither of these succeed then please contact the ICT Service Desk.
